Sphagnum capillifolium Northern European form: This very slender sphagnum plant, found along the edges of peat bogs and in the undergrowth, lives in northern Europe and in cold climates. Its pink, reddish color depends on whether it finds minerals in the substrate. In summer, with higher temperatures, its heads may turn green, but the rest of the stem retains a pinkish hue.
