Sphagnum moss has a long fiber, you will find green tips and a brown stem. If you keep it very wet and in partial shade even the brown parts will begin to produce new green tips.
Sphagnum moss is useful if wrapped around the roots of carnivorous plants with very delicate roots. It is mainly used on nepenthes, heliamphore and essential for Darlingtonia californica. It is an excellent aid for cuttings as it keeps the cuttings hydrated and improves the rooting of the plants. It has an antifungal function
