Nepenthes pudica develops subterranean pitchers as an adaptation to the mountainous ridges subject to seasonal drought periods where it grows. It appears to predominantly catch ants, similar to most studied species of the Nepenthes genus. Its presence is in a few localities in the Mentarang Hulu district, North Kalimantan in Borneo, at an altitude between 1100 and 1300 meters above sea level (intermediate). It is characterized by the production of chlorophyll-free subterranean stems bearing functional subterranean pitchers, while the production of epigeal (above-ground) pitchers is very limited.
